Artist Statement

Painting is both a physical and an emotional act. Just as mind and body interact, so do my internal and external worlds – implicitly collaborating – exert influence on the images I produce.

The resplendence of nature might seem an unlikely subject for an artist whose most familiar landscape consists of hard-edged brick, concrete and machined glass. Yet, the inevitable imperfections and variations of natural forms are what I’m drawn to and, indeed, feel compelled to engage with.

How? For one, the physicality of gesture. For another, the mix of colors and contrasts that enliven my palette. Further, layered and excavated paint – softer and courser – depict the idiosyncrasies of a vision I call my own: perhaps distant realms brought in close.
