Paintings -2024

Artist's Note - Serendipity: 11/1/24

My art practice has become a challenge as my sight lessens from macular degeneration. Details and paint colors are increasingly more difficult to identify with assurance. Keeping up with alternative treatments, my eyes were saved from losing central vision entirely. The vibrant palette I've chosen compensates for diminished visual acuity.

The process begins with multiple layers of paint which are gradually uncovered through sanding and scraping The undertones reveal themselves. Over dried paint, wet paint is loaded with solvent or medium. A squeegee is used to mix colors, notice how they blend together and how shapes are transformed - stopping when satisfied with the guided serendipity of it all.
